I've been criticized on the logic of it, but I pay emotional penance for my
meat-eating (I'm a reformed vegetarian) through the weekly feeding of cute
fuzzy wuzzy pet store rats to my boa constrictor. When she was under the
weather and slow to feed this was quite taxing. But usually it's only a
brief moment of anguish and then the glory of seeing the food chain in
action. I always figure I like fuzzy mammals but I like my snake better.
And I like cows and chickens and fish but I like myself better.

I suspect those of us who have issues with the meat industry probably have
issues with all industry - cruelty is part of industrialization, whether the
symptom is inhumane treatment of food animals or inhumane treatment of
workers or inhumane treatment of the earth where resources are found in mass
quantities.
