Bullshit. If the Taliban took over, forced the bechadoring of all women
and the bebearding of all men, banned alcohol and music, and started
lopping off body parts, no one would be dancing (it would be forbidden).
If the people there were dismayed rather than welcoming, there would
be a Pulitzer for the first newsperson to report it; the media is no
totalitarian monolith, and there are too many welcoming well-paying
venues for a good story, regardless of its character, for anything to be
sculpted or suppressed any more. Besides, the internet would not allow
such a suppression; it would be all over the lists and blogs, and the TV
and print media would be FORCED to acknowledge it.
