I stopped reading that article halfway. It's really obnoxious. At first it became annoying with the constant mention of his wife and her frustration that he's an investigative reporter. Then I really started hating the diary-style of writing. Next came the faulty capitalization of AIDS. He spells it "Aids." Oh, and let's not forget the drama. Overall, the article isn't very interesting. It's just packed with irrelevant style which is what makes it so long and obnoxious to read. If I were "madam," I'd be very upset that my husband was still continuing to write despite his apparent lack of talent and skill.

Look, Mr. Writer, cut all the fat and check that the remaining muscle has power. Buy The Elements of Style by William Strunk and E.B. White. Read it thoroughly. Implement your newfound knowledge. Write your first draft. Cut it in half. Write your second draft. Rinse and repeat until what you have left is interesting, objective, and relevant. If all else fails, do like your wife wants and quit your job.
