Actually, practically all of the abuse supposedly took place last November
6th (a Saturday night), and it all took place in a small portion of Abu
Ghraib that was reserved for holding prisoners who were either apprehended
while attacking US forces, or people who had been specifically picked up due
to credible intelligence that they were engaged in terrorist activities -
which is why they were placed in those two cellblocks in the first place,
where individuals who were singled out for 'softening' prior to
interrogation were housed. Not only does this mean that they were more
likely to be murderers than jaywalkers, it also strongly suggests that the
abuse was a lower-level phenomenon; the pursuit of an institutional policy
would most likely not be confined to a single night

But yes, as I now discover, just about every soldier in Iraq seems to have a camera with him, a fact that makes the volume of material less surprising.
