After watching this thread for a while, I get the impression that Mermaid is
discussing the mnemonic values of the mathematical instruction contained in
the vedas... whereas Hermit and Kirk are debating the validity or even
existence (verifiable) of some sort of mystic pattern in the vedas? Is this
not a guava vs corn arguement?

I have yet to see any point-counterpoint embedded within the flameage ;-}
you're argueing separate issues, missing each others' points entirely, but
unable to step back and say "is that person disagreeing or digressing?"

I suspect that you are exactly correct.

The issue which Yash raised, and I was addressing, is the allegation that a
4,000 year old prayer contains an "hidden" embodiment of PI to 32
significant digits.

I am not sure that anyone, least of all the Mermaid, knows exactly what she
was trying to assert. I suspect that she had not realized that her proffered
"alternate" of a mnemonic presupposes exactly what was being contested -
that the character of PI was known at all, never mind to any degree of
significance beyond what was available through measurement.

But it seems that it is going to be a bit quieter around here for a while -
unless Yash decides to come back with an argument rather than more of the
same.

Regards

Hermit

PS Isn't it unusual when a male gets to have the last word :-)
