...some nice points mermaid. indeed the pefect diet would probably be one
nice steak per week....or fish/chicken and a steak a month. your vegetable
arguement is very true...but fruit be fruit, i guess i was speaking more
along the lines of harvesting the whole plant;eg. asparagus, leafy greens
etc.

...as for cows and milk(im a great fan of 1% milk), i had the shocking
experience of visiting a med. large dairy near Ithaca this past christmas.
quite a shitty existence indeed!! but then i also had to confront the
concept of relativity(not einsteins) in that the cows were born there, lived
there, and died there. it was very much a concentration camp...and yet
since they didnt know any different from the get go, and their lives were
shortened from 20-30 yrs to 6 yrs due to the excessive methods of squeezing
them for every ounce of milk possible(100lbs...roughly 12 gallons..per
cow...per day..with 3 milkings per day).

...and though it would be nice to see a more relaxed method of sucking cow
juice from them, i can only blame our planet's and country's insanely
excessive population for 'necessitating' such procedures. i blame religion
and the 'breed and multiply' concept for the misery of cows and generalized
nasty animal treatment levels.

...by the way..ever fed chicken meat to a chicken? they really love it!:)

...and i definitely thank, admire and treat my steaks with the utmost
respect...very rare, delicately handled, spiced and sometimes raw via
carpaccio. i very much realize a fellow cow-being perished to bring me such
a dish..and i always silently thank them and respect the beautiful meal
which they give me. especially when i barbeque!!! yum yum!!:D nothing can
beat that(except maybe sushi..but that's different).

Lets face it. Meat is good. Meat is tasty, but it is not meant for daily
consumption. There is a very valid health risk in shoving dead animals into
your stomach everyday...which btw is the considered as 'prosperity' in some
parts of the world. Given such demand, the supply situation has to be
injected, prodded and pinched in crowded enclosures.

Lets not go into the nonsensical threads of plants and pain...man is an
omniwhore etc. Bottom line...any animal...and this includes the human
species..., usually kills only when hungry. We will talk about "plant pain"
after someone can prove that a chicken can grow back a thigh after you have
digested it after dipping it in kfc goodness. Pluck a tomato, the plant will
grow another beautiful tomato again. Leave it on the plant after it gets too
ripe, it rots. A cabbage doesnt live forever. A potato have a life span of
10 years.

Ok? Now that we are clear with that...lets move on. A cow gives you milk,
meat and hide. When anyone takes so much<without asking permission even!!>,
they have a duty to provide for the animal in terms of shelter, food and
safety from other elements. Shelter does not include over crowded cages
after chopping off the beaks of the chickens. Food does not include hormone
laden food. Safety also includes knowing that someone is not milking blood
alongwith what is supposed to be food for the youngling.<Yes...cows dont
lactate until they have a calf...more cow facts will be provided upon
enquiry...and yes...I grew up on fresh milk straight from the udder...so
yes...cows are not harmed nor do they squirm with pain if you rely on it to
satisfy your dairy needs..in fact..if they are not milked on time and the
udders get too heavy, the cow is in a lot of pain.>

Next..if you like eggs. Buy eggs that are from free range chickens and those
which are fed organic/vegetarian feed. Chickens eat grain and the occasional
worm. Some commerical eggs are products of their own species. Thats like
chicken cannibalism. No species of animals eat their own. Its obscene. If
you love your dairy, try organic. The chances that the cow has been
literally milked upto its last drop of blood are very slim.<I would like to
use this soapbox to talk about my other pet peeve...fuck 'fat free'
milk...its not milk unless its whole milk WITH cream....dont give up dairy
completely...moderate> Now..meat. Well..I'd suggest that meat should be
given up completely. But moo fucking hoo...meat is tasty? So have it once a
month or even less frequently.<Another pet peeve: whats with eating the damn
dead animal without even dressing it up....the last time i had pork, it was
so undercooked that I expected it to jump on me and oink me to death...If
people are going to serve me dead meat..it better be smothered with lots of
edible goo and dressed up to hide the stench of death>

Animals do have rights. They deserve our kindness and gratitude. Everybody
has a role to play. The cow shed is not a concentration camp.
