[TransdimensionalElf] like a i said previously- most people are unwilling to believe that telepathic awareness is possible. synesthesia in its true sense is not a part of any experience that i have had with either mushrooms or acid. true synesthesia is produced only by dimethyltryptamine which many users will attest to. the users most often report seeing sound as colored imagery in 3 dimensions.
[Hermit] I'm not sure what the difference is between "true synesthesia" and common or garden synesthesia, but many users of various psychoactive materials have reported it, and e.g. Richard Cytowic (http://wearcam.org/synesthesia/cytowic.html) a very well regarded neurologist (refer e.g. http://www.abc.net.au/rn/talks/8.30/helthrpt/hstories/hr080796.htm for a non-rigorous article and http://webster.directhit.com/webster/search.php?qry=synesthesia for serious papers) has used marker, O2 uptake and PET scanning to investigate this effect in people who are naturally synesthetic and reports that subjects experiencing synesthetic episodes due to the use of a wide range of psychoactive materials (including marijuana) demonstrate congruent brain activity. So while your experience may be limited, it seems not to be particularly common.
